The match was brilliant. We shared many similar personality traits and she had been through similar situations as I am currently going through so was able to understand on a deeper level and this was also evidence for me of being able to come through the other side and make improvements. My mentor also had experience working in a similar sector which helps massively in terms of not needing to explain some of the challenges that come with the territory of working within mental health and the charity sector.

The mentoring relationship encouraged self-reflection in relation to: my own role and development opportunities, my approach and the varying communication styles needed for the personalities within the organisation. It encouraged me to speak up more to be heard in order to be able to take my leadership responsibilities to the next level
As there are differences in communication styles, the adaptations we have all made and the resulting clarity around roles and responsibilities, as well as increased confidence has allowed clearer boundaries and better working relationships to get the most from the team.
The encouraged self-reflection and conversation around the challenges present, both personally and within the team, has meant that I feel more assured of my position and increased my confidence to assert my boundaries. Working to increase my confidence in tactfully challenging others has enabled me to solidify my position within the team. This has led to a review of my role to ensure it accurately reflect what I do.

After the final meeting with Carol we had achieved the following outcomes :

successfully piloted 'free taster sessions' and planned to hold these every 3-4 months to help reach new audiences and communicate what our training is about

built a list of local organisations to pitch training to and use this to promote training to on social media and mailchimp

planned to create a quarterly fundraising newsletter that would include training updates and circulate to our list of local organisations

created a digital post-training feedback form to help collect usable feedback

grown our Training LinkedIn page to connect with training bookers, HR professionals, etc and reach new audiences.
In addition since then, Carol recommended us to Network B2B to take up the free charity place on the Teesside network. This has been beneficial in making new connections, and getting referrals to organisations possibly interested in training. I've been referred and had follow up conversations with several organisations including Darlington Council Apprenticeships team and HR department, Tees Valley Learner Provider Network, INHR a Durham-based HR consultant, and am hopeful some booking(s) may come as a result of these referrals.
